When you think about putting new floors in your home, the options that usually come to mind are hardwood, tile, and maybe even laminate. But there’s another contender on the market that is often overlooked: Shaw Waterproof Luxury Vinyl. Unlike vinyl products of the past, this luxury vinyl offers a whole host of benefits that make it an excellent choice for your flooring needs.

#1. Something for Everyone

Want the look of hardwood without the maintenance? Or maybe you want something that looks like tile, but you want something you can install yourself. Shaw’s collection of Waterproof Luxury Vinyl has something for everyone. High definition printing is used to allow luxury vinyl planks and tiles to take on the appearance of hardwood, natural stone or tile. Their options are practically limitless, so if you want a rich, dark hardwood, or you want to create a unique pattern, you are sure to find just the product to meet your needs.

#2. Easy to Install

Shaw’s collection of luxury vinyl, also called Floorté, is extremely easy to install. It features an interlocking system that you can snap together on your own, saving you a the added cost of hiring a professional flooring installer. You also don’t need to worry about leveling the subfloor. Floorté’s construction allows you to seal over imperfections. It can also be quickly installed over concrete or other existing floor.

#3. Resilient

The luxury vinyl planks and tiles are extremely resilient. First off, as the name suggests, they’re waterproof. Spilled liquids stay on the surface and don’t absorb in. This feature also makes it great for rooms where vinyl wouldn’t necessarily work – basements, bathrooms, mudrooms. It also makes it resistant to mildew and mold.

Luxury vinyl has a thick wear layer, which makes it resistant to scratches, dents and scuffs. This added with being waterproof makes it very kid and pet friendly. It’s also an excellent choice for high traffic areas, such as kitchens and hallways.

#4. Easy to Clean

Luxury vinyl is a breeze to clean. Spills can simply be wiped up. When you want to clean the whole floor, all you need to do is sweep, spray with a hard surface cleaner and then wipe it clean.

Installation Tips

Even though luxury vinyl is an easy DIY project, there are some things to keep in mind when you’re ready to get started:

  • Before you start laying out your new floor, remove your baseboards, making sure to mark them. This ensures you know where they go when you’re ready to reinstall them. You may also need to undercut door jambs.
  • Plan your layout. Set down a decent number of planks or tiles in order to see what the floor will look like when you finish. When you’re actually ready to get started, use spacers against your walls, which will allow you to save space for your baseboards.
  • If you’re using planks, stagger the joints. If the ends of each plank lines up with the previous row, you run the risk of the floor weakening very quickly. Staggering helps create a more stable floor, ensuring that you will have it for a long time to come.
