Got some carpet scraps left over from your most recent project? Before you throw them away, consider keeping them for another use. These six suggestions are easy and cheap, and the experts at Windows, Floors & Decor will be glad to help you out no matter how you choose to use your carpet scraps.

1. Save Them for Repair

There is always a chance that your freshly installed carpet could get ripped or stained. Before you start DIY-ing away, make sure to put aside a few scraps of carpet in case you need to repair your new carpet. A professional can use those scraps to patch a rip or stain so that you would never know there had been a problem.

2. Checkerboard a Room

If your kid’s room is in need of a new carpet as well, a scrap checkerboard carpet could be just the way to go. You may need to buy a few more scraps to change up the pattern, but buying those scraps will still most likely cost less than the price of a whole new carpet. You can even get creative by changing up the sizes of the rectangles and squares you use – kids love variety!

3. Line a Chest or Trunk

There is something exquisite about a lined chest, and carpet makes a great material for lining. With the right adhesive, you can turn any boring old box into a sumptuous piece of furniture. Or, think outside the box – install the carpet on the outside to make a unique ottoman or end table.

4. Protect Your Vehicle

Instead of using generic floor mats to keep the inside of your car or truck looking clean on a rainy day, lay down some of those carpet scraps instead. If you have enough scrap left over, you may even be able to cut a custom piece to fit across the entire floor, so you don’t have to be a contortionist to keep your muddy boots on the mat.

5. Bed Your Pets

A soft carpet scrap is great to lay down in an animal crate or doghouse if you don’t have a bed for your pet. You can also use it for house training your animals. Lay your newspaper or training pad on a piece of carpet scrap wherever you want it, and just toss it out once it has gotten too dirty.

6. Make a Rug

Whether you would like a nice rug to put in front of your shower or a big area rug to protect your hardwood flooring, Windows, Floors & Decor can custom bind any carpet for you. So even if you want an unusual shape, we will turn your leftovers into a usable and professional-looking rug, and it will have the added bonus of matching seamlessly with the carpet in other parts of your home.

So next time you have a carpet installed and end up with a room’s worth of leftover, don’t toss them out or give them away. Upcycle with one of these simple ideas, and count on Windows, Floors & Decor to give you a helping hand in the process.
