Pillows & Throws

Kansas City Pillows & Throws

Decorative pillows and luxurious throws have a knack for taking the design appeal of any space to the next level. Simply drape the arm of your favorite chair with a soft woolen blanket, et voilà—instant upgrade. The appeal of perfectly selected pillows for atop the bed and a textured throw laid across the back of the sofa are enough to capture anyone’s attention.

Choosing the Right Throw

Sometime it’s love at first sight. You see that big chunky knit blanket and you know that you need it in your living room for endless nights of cuddling up. Other times, it can be difficult to make a decision. When choosing your throw, here are few things to consider:

  1. What is the throw intended for?
Function and form are two very different things. Do you want people to actually use it? Or is it more for aesthetic purposes?
  2. What materials do you enjoy?
Cotton and knit throws provide a much different experience than wool or cashmere ones, for example. The best way to know is to try them out! Touch the throw and then imagine yourself (or your spouse or your children) wrapped up in it. That will most likely tell you everything you need to know about the amenability of that throw.
    3. What is the design of the room in question?
A throw is a great accent for any room, lending a certain textural intrigue where certain areas may be rather bland. When shopping, keep in mind the current design of the room where you’ll be using the throw. Is your comforter a quilt? Unless you are a master at mixing and matching prints, you may avoid a plaid throw and stick with a neutral colored one.

Choosing the Right Pillows

There’s no such thing as too many pillows. The key to choosing the right ones is to realize that they will immediately draw the eye to them. That being said, pillows are a great opportunity for you to add a little extra style, color, and texture to your couch, chairs, and bed. Use them as a pop of color against a neutral comforter. Play around with patterns. Brighten up darker spaces and experiment with textures.  Pillows afford you a lot of leeway to have fun with your interior design!
